Each year Yaoi and Yuri grow more popular. Yaoi and Yuri are manga in which the plot of the story usually revolves around the relationship of either 2 males or 2 females. These relationships can be either sexual or emotional and they can contain both. If you’re a manga reader or at least browsed that section of the bookstore, I’m sure you have noticed a few titles with 2 men or 2 women lovingly and affectionately embracing or interacting with one another. This is an inside look.
I would like to express my gratitude to a man that taught me lessons about friendship, relationships, accountability and responsibility and how those lessons gave me a sense of happiness that also developed into a life long passion.
Stanley Lieber died today. For those people that don't know that name, he went by another for much of his life. He went by Stan Lee. Stan Lee inspired millions, some of which followed in his footsteps. They took his characters, his ideas, and his archetypes, and created their own versions, expanding the art of comic creation into what it is today, an over 17 Billion Dollar Powerhouse. I saw on my IG timeline that the legendary comic book great, Stan Lee just passed today. The legendary ‘Art God’ has transcended from this Earth and moved to the realms of the Marvel Universe in the form of Valhalla, the Deep Cosmos or any other Cosmic Universe under the guise of the Marvel Franchise. And while I really don’t know how to feel at this moment, I felt that the best way for me to cope is by writing about how comic books introduced me to a different form of Geekdom, all thanks to Stan Lee.
I don't love the trailer, I don't hate it, but it doesn't tickle my fancy either. It feels like an early 2000’s throwback: wonky CG, generic villain, a main character who is too cool to be a hero, and a final battle that involves a bigger version of the protagonist. (Credit to Artist)
Book-Con was more than your average book convention, it was literally book-heaven as the Jacob Javitz center played landlord to this event. What made it so much fun was the rich tapestry of diverse authors and books from around the country. All I can say is this; I went, I saw and I will definitely be attending next year. In other words, Book-Con was freaking awesome!!
Free Comic Book Day at East Side Mags had Cosplay, special guest appearances and of course free comic books for everyone that came by. I had the privilege of meeting the owner, Jeff Beck, and listen to his take on this glorious day.
3 Kings: Diddy, Dr. Dre, Jay-Z and Hip-Hop’s Multibillion-Dollar Rise by Zack O’ Malley Greenburg (ZOMG), is an inspirational guide that highlights the rise of three of the best known artists in Hip-Hop. ZOMG’s analysis of the musical culture first takes on a biographical tone as the preliminary pages focus on Hip-Hops’s originators and place of residence for its origin. The literature takes on a different vibe as the book highlights the various paths each artist went through and how they were able to gamble and capitalize on themselves as a brand to secure ‘the bag’ for themselves (make a lot of money).
What if I told you that Wonder Woman had a sister? Would you be in shock? Now what if I told you she was brown skinned, brown eyed, black haired, 6 foot, 155 lbs and every bit as strong as Wonder Woman? You would probably fall off the edge of your seat. I love books series and when I find a great one I become extremely immersed in that particular world. After going through series after series, I was recommended the “Dorothy Must Die” series by a fellow book addict that become captivated by Danielle Paige’s interpretation of Oz. She has put a unique spin on Dorothy’s tale and the girl from Kansas we all know and love.
